Remembering Dad: A Father's Day Toast with New Dawn
Father's Day is a time to reflect, celebrate, and remember the dad’s in our lives and those who may have passed on. For me, memories of my Dad are intertwined with lessons learned, like his insistence on trying everything once and that you’re never too old to learn a new skill whether that be skiing, cooking, or rollerskating. My memories are also shaped by shared glasses of whiskey, especially the moment when I became the teacher - introducing my dad to the new craft whiskies I was discovering.
Life is of course too short and my dad passed away some time ago but my only real regret is that I didn’t have the opportunity to share a glass of New Dawn with him and get his thoughts and opinions. So this year, in memory of the dad’s watching over us from the ancestral plane and in celebration of the dad’s of all types still doling out life’s important lessons, let's honor the men who shaped us with a moment of reflection and a pour of New Dawn.
Shared Moments, Shared Sips, and a Time for Reflection
Whiskey often evokes a sense of tradition and history. These small, shared moments become the fabric of our memories, connecting us to the past. So as you and your dad savor a pour of New Dawn take a moment to share a favorite memory:
AS YOU NOSE YOUR GLASS: What aspects of your father’s personality come to mind?
AS YOU TAKE YOUR FIRST SIP: How did your father’s guidance shape you
AS YOU SAVOR NEW DAWN’S FINISH: What legacy has your father left behind? What lasting impressions remain?
I know this Father's Day, I will be taking a moment to remember the small things, the quiet conversations, and the unspoken understandings. I will remember my dad’s sternness that scared all my friends growing up contradicting his infectious smile and warm laugh that filled his life with friends of all walks of life, his golf lessons (focus on the straw under the ball!) and encouragement to embrace adventure, and the amazing palate he has passed on allowing me to take the new journey. Get you and your dad a bottle today and join me in raising a glass of whiskey to the father figures who have made a difference in your life, and cherish the memories that will last a lifetime.
